Marcel Lucassen, Individual coach for technique and tactics at the German FA (DFB) and assistant coach of the German U-17 national team, leaves the German Football Association to become Technical Director of Football Club Al-Nasr FC in Dubai.
Lucassen will be responsible for the club’s youth academy from 20 July. In addition, he will support the Football Federation of the UAE in coach education. The contract is valid for the next three years.
At the German FA, Lucassen had full-time responsibility for the individual technical and tactical training of the German national youth teams since 2008. He also supported Christian Wück as assistant coach of the U-17 national team that won the runner-up at the European Championships in May. “It was not an easy decision for me. In recent years I have repeatedly received tempting offers but always opted for the DFB. I am pleased that sporting director Hansi Flick wants to continue to maintain contact with me, because that’s my desire, “said Lucassen.
“Now I want to take on a new challenge. With Al-Nasr FC I have the chance to develop much, since I’m in charge of the entire Academy. The association has gone to great lengths to me, which was quite remarkable. Our aim in Dubai is to develop an academy and a training center at the highest level.’
Sports Director Hansi Flick regrets the departure of Dutchman. “Marcel Lucassen has done an excellent job for the DFB in recent years. We wish him every success in his new role. “Prior to joining the DFB Lucassen has worked among other things as an individual coach for Manchester United, the TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and MSV Duisburg.
