Over the last 3 years and in cooperation with several (inter)national experts, Raymond Verheijen has developed the football specific approach to psychology called ‘Football Braining’.
Verheijen first introduced this new concept during the 4th National Football Symposium in the Netherlands last October. During both plenary and sub sessions, Verheijen overloaded the brain of the coaches in the room for them to experience whether they were able to control their thoughts in uncomfortable situations. Obviously, several coaches were not able to stay comfortable in the uncomfortable environment. These coaches could not stop themselves from developing (negative) thoughts. For some coaches, these thoughts even developed into actions. So, for these coaches it will probably also be a challenge to stay comfortable if an uncomfortable situation develops due to the opponent, the referee or the media.
During the Football Braining experiment last October, many coaches gained a better self-knowledge. It was confronting for them to experience how an external factor (in this case the overload by Verheijen) was able to get into their brain and, in some occasions, even took over their actions. As coaches are first of all a role model to their playes, it’s crucial for them to always stay in control of their thoughts no matter how uncomfortable the situation is before, during or after a game.

During the upcoming Football Braining MasterClass the participating coaches will get a deeper understanding of the principles of the Football Braining concept. Also, Verheijen will show how he did apply these principles in a real high performance environment with the Wales National Team in 2011 using video clips of real team meetings.
